As a United States Senator, Charlie Crist will take the message to Washington that we are fed up with the partisan gridlock and work to provide common-sense solutions to the issues important to the people of Florida. Charlie Crist will always do what is right for the people he proudly serves.
Throughout his public career, Charlie Crist has supported common sense measures to crack down on criminals who prey on Florida’s families. As Florida’s next U.S. Senator, Charlie Crist will take his crime fighting record to Washington and will stand strong against efforts to weaken criminal sentencing laws.
As promised on the gubernatorial campaign, the first bill Governor Charlie Crist signed into law, in regular session, as Governor was the Anti-Murder Act. This legislation ensures violent felony offenders who violate probation return to jail. Since becoming law, nearly 100 violent probation violators have been locked back up.
As a State Senator, Governor Crist sponsored landmark legislation called S.T.O.P., Stop Turning Out Prisoners Act, requiring criminals to serve at least 85 percent of their sentences. This legislation went into law and has provided relief to many victims and their families.
As Attorney General, Charlie Crist created the state’s first Child Predator/Cyber Crime unit in August 2005. As Governor, he strengthened the Jessica Lunsford Act to provide increased protections for children from sex offenders and predators.
Due to these important policies and laws, Florida is enjoying its lowest crime rate in 39 years. These policies and laws are complemented by the dedication and commitment of Florida’s law enforcement community. Charlie Crist will fight for law enforcement/first responders in the U.S. Senate. Governor Crist is proud to have the endorsement of the Police Benevolent Association and the Fraternal Order of Police.
